Holidays To Spain

Holidays to Spain means plenty of sunshine and a lot of choice. As well as mainland Spain, there are also the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, and the Canary Islands in the Atlantic ocean both of which fall under Spanish rule.

Mainland Spain is quite large, and shares borders with Portugal, Gibraltar, Morocco, France and Andorra. It is dominated by high plateaus and mountain ranges such as the sierra Nevada, and because of it’s geographical situation it’s climate is quite diverse. The inland areas of the peninsular (around the Madrid area) and along the southern and eastern coasts on the seaward side of the various nearby mountain ranges, are where you’ll find a Mediterranean climate, while in the Galicia area, and around the Bay of Biscay, you’ll find an oceanic climate.

The most popular mainland resorts of Madrid and Barcelona offer tourists a glimpse into the heart of Spanish city life, and in Madrid in particular, there are many places to visit from art galleries and boutique shopping, to aristocratic palaces. With a wide variety of restaurants, bars and clubs to choose from, the evenings can be filled with good food, wine and dancing.

Barcelona on the other hand is a city far more steeped in history, and there is some wonderful architecture to be seen here, particularly that of Antonio Gaudi which is scattered through the central city, and the Sagrada Familia temple is probably his most impressive building. Barcelona is more child friendly than Madrid, although it too has its share of bars and clubs for late night entertainment.

There are many other mainland locations to choose from, sophisticated Marbella, or energetic Benidorm might suit your taste, or you could try for the best of both worlds in Alicante where the city is right on the coast. Valencia is a place for fine dining and romance, and the magic of siestas and sangria on the Costa del Sol might be more your thing.
The Canary Islands offer a very different look to mainland Spain, with dramatic landscapes moulded by volcanoes over thousands of years. Lush tropical forests, secluded coves and palm trees nestling at their edge.

The Balearics are different again in style with long open stretches of beaches sporting wonderful white sands, olive groves, and fruit trees abound and everything feels very relaxed and laid back here.

So whether you’re looking for sun, sea and sand on the coast or chic boutiques and fancy restaurants in the city, or even perhaps a cultural exploration across one of the Spanish islands, Spain has plenty of everything to offer.

I agree with this article Spain still has to be the main place to go on holiday. My favourite place is Majorca as the Island has so much to do. A good place for resort info is http://www.holidaysmajorcadirect.co.uk.

Where ever you are going in Spain have a great time everyone.
