Cala Dor holidays

Cala d’Or lies on the east coast of Majorca, and is one of the islands smartest resorts with marinas hosting fleets of luxury yachts. This picturesque location started life as a fishing village and is now a holiday development that covers approximately two miles of small coves. The original Cala d’Or cove is in the middle of this group.

With its selection of coves, Cala d’Or has lots to offer tourists. Cala Gran is the largest beach and used to be reserved for women only, but is now very family friendly. Cala Longa is where the main marina is, and is the place to go if you want to see all the best yachts. Between these two coves, is a pedestrian zone which is the heart of town life, here you’ll find all the best boutiques, bars, restaurants and open air cafes. Actually, sitting eating a good meal in a restaurant looking out over the marina, and watching the boats coming in and out particularly in the evening when the marina comes alive with lights from the yachts is an excellent way to relax and enjoy this location.

There are many attractive villas here to stay in, as well as plenty of hotels, and for people who are looking for a bit of luxury Cala d’Or can certainly offer it. Nightlife here is quieter than in areas such as Palma Nova and Magaluf, and is more oriented towards hotel entertainment than bars and discos, although there are one or two in the area.

Because Cala d’Or is a series of coves, walking from one end of the resort to the other involves quite a lot of zig-zagging, so the Cala d’Or land train is a really good way of getting around the resort area, it travels to all of the main parts of the resort, as well as all the various coves marina and in town, and will save you a lot of walking.

Cala Egos is home to a natural seawater rock pool which is rather spectacular to look at, and nearby Es Forti a cliff top fortification is one of the historical places of interest locally. The area is quite good if you’re a bird watcher, and it’s possible to arrange jeep safaris of the local area to give you a chance to see a number of birds and animals locally. Other entertainments here like elsewhere in Majorca focus on sporting, with sailing, diving, tennis, boating and golf all available.
