Alcudia Holidays
Even though Alcudia is a small resort located in the northwest section of Majorca, it is especially popular with families because of its five miles of sheltered golden and white sand beaches, warm and safe shallow waters, the Hidropark amusement park, other attractions such as go-karting and mini-golf, and the relaxing atmosphere. Water sports include sailing, scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, and fishing. Sunshine abounds between May and October, and a little more humidity is only present during July and August, so the weather is extremely pleasant for your holiday enjoyment.
Alcudia is filled with historic sites and culture from the Romans, Greeks, Moors, and Phoenicians. These are located in the Old town section which is about two miles inland. The two gates in the massive city walls are the entrance, and the town is “guarded” by large towers. You can walk the narrow streets and explore the old architecture and unusual buildings. At nearby Pollentia is a Roman amphitheater that is well preserved and one of the oldest churches in Majorca.
Puerto Alcudia is the other area and is located at the quaint harbor that has a beautiful marina. The main promenade has hotels, shops, together with bars and pubs for night life activities. However, most of the evening entertainment is in the hotels and may not be active enough for young singles or couples who are seeking a party atmosphere. A large market is fun for shoppers on Tuesday and Sunday mornings with a great choice of purchases including souvenirs, leather handbags, lace tablecloths, porcelain, and other local handcrafts.
Seeing the area is easy and inexpensive. It is very reasonably priced and easy to get around if you hire a bike, and the full length of the main road has a dedicated cycle lane. Many buses are available on a regular basis. If you like to walk, there is a two hour guided tour in Alcudia that will explain the history of the sights you see and make them much more interesting.
Although seafood is the most popular choice in the many local, Mediterranean, and European restaurants. You can also find your complete English or Scottish breakfasts, Yorkshire pudding with roast beef, fish and chips, sausage and mash, as well as a pint of bitter.
