Alcudia Holiday Ideas

For an interesting holiday, consider the popular resort of Alcudia in the northeast part of Majorca. The Mediterranean island of Majorca is the largest of Spain’s islands and offers a wide variety of attractions.

Alcudia has a seven-mile stretch of beautiful white sand and warm beaches where you can enjoy a wide selection of water sports such as safe swimming, fishing, kite surfing, and scuba diving. A cataran or glass bottom boat trip or a ferry to another island adds to the sightseeing in the area.

You can enjoy the S’Albufera bird watchers’ conservation area with over 200 species of birds, go on hikes or take a bicycle, go horseback riding, play tennis and squash, swim, watch the boats in the beautiful marina, or soak in the sun. There are religious and folk events and fiestas all through the year where you can experience the culture of this island.

The Old Town (which is an ancient Moorish fort) has Roman, Byzantine and Moorish ancient historic sites and Spain’s smallest amphitheater. A guided walking tour will provide you with the fascinating history.

On Tuesdays and Sundays Alcudia boasts a spectacular market where you can find excellent choices in leather goods, jewelry, crafts, embroidered linens, and many souvenirs.

If this is a family vacation, many of the hotels offer clubs for kids, play areas, etc. The El Laberinto Giant Maze Fun Park has a castle, water monsters, witches, pirates, clowns, and more. Hidropark has two children’s pools as well as a wave pool, water flumes, and a boating lake. There is miniature golf for the children and Golf Alcanada (a par 72 course) for the adults.

Developed into a major holiday resort from a fishing port, Alcudia has a scenic harbor with restaurants offering excellent seafood and the best of Spanish wines.

It is also an active night spot with international bars such as German beer gardens and also Scottish, Irish and Spanish bars and English pubs with traditional English food, real ale, international beers and lagers, karaoke, and other contests.

Alcudia’s popular nightclub, Menta, has seven bars, international DJ’s, an indoor swimming pool, and music which is a mixture of disco and Spanish. If you want to hear music from the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s, you can go to the Festas Bar (named for the Addams’ Family’s Uncle Festa).
